How can I get rid of pop-up windows?

Pop-up windows usually stem from either websites, ad-ware or spy-ware.  Ad-ware is programs that have been installed on your computer either by a third party company, or installing a component on a website without reading the fine print.  Those types of programs will download new ads and display them - even when you are not connected to the Internet.  To get rid of pop-ups while you are surfing the net in Internet Explorer, download teh Google Toolbar.  We use it at FamilyNet and on our home computers and we are very happy with it.  Download it at http://toolbar.google.com.  If you have problems with pop-ups outside of Internet Explorer, we recommend fighting the problem with 3 programs: Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Spy Blaster.  You can find all 3 of those programs at www.download.com
